Lots of people have been falling in love over the holidays and new relationships are igniting an exciting start to a New Year. One loyal listener sent me a message on Facebook asking for a little advice about an issue of the heart. Her story put a smile on my face…
I'm twenty years old, and I've listened to your show since I was a little girl. I've never had a boyfriend and never been in love, but there's a young man at work making me miserable...in a good way. I only recently considered that I might be thinking of him as more than just someone I work with. We talk often throughout the day, and he always says hello when we cross paths. We're usually on break together, as if by accident. I'll talk to him when I wouldn't usually talk to other coworkers, or other people in general. He's always been warm and friendly to me.
My trouble is, I don't know why this makes me so miserable. I frequently check my schedule to see when I'll be working with him, and I always look around for him throughout the day, but when I see him I'm always so shy or nervous that I have to look away again. I can't help but smile when we happen to look at each other, and my heart beats just a little faster when I'm near him. And at the end of the day, I'm always sad when we have to go our separate ways. Your heart is a flutter, you’re always looking for him, you’re checking your schedule and it’s making you miserable – in a good way. It sounds like you have a “crush” my friend! If it didn’t hurt a little bit, they’d call it something else. And I say enjoy this time in your life where you get to feel twitterpated by someone. If you two are meant to be more, it will happen.
