By the time you read this, I may already be in jail (pictured here. At least I might get one of those toilet/sink combo units. Those look really handy!).

Yesterday I did something I always wanted to do: I refused to show my receipt when walking out of a store. I bought a pair of headphones for my dad to use with his computer, and one of those coffee-cup warmers that will eventually burn my house down.

Anyway, the checkout line was very long. Why do they have 44 checkout lanes if only 3 of them are open at any time?  By the time I'd finally gotten through the checkout line, I was in no mood to stand in yet ANOTHER line to show my receipt to a woman with a vest and a highliter. How much did they think I could have possibly stolen in the ten steps between the cashier and the front door? So I walked right out the door. Didn't even slow down. "Could I see your receipt?" called the highliter lady. "No, I don't have to." I said, and kept on walkin'. She looked shocked for a moment, then just nodded. I was free! I made it! Out the door and in the clear!  For now anyway. If I'm not here tomorrow, please call a lawyer for me.

Note: This was NOT one of those "club" stores where showing your receipt is something you agree to when you sign up.
